Spoken-Word?

...what is spoken-word?...a definition:

Spoken word music is the best definition of itself.  It is spoken
words, usually poetry, and music.  The spoken word genre is a far cry
different from traditional music.  The words are meant to be heard.
Most music in these times could be played without words, but instead
have some goof make cave dweller like noises and it wouldn’t change
the song at all.  This might not be true of all music, but it would
be true of most the stuff I’ve heard on the radio.

The music is in
no way less important, but the lyrics have taken back their long lost
place of meaning something.  Most spoken word performers that I have
come across have been influenced by the rise of poetry slams.  Spoken
word is not meant to be read, but it is meant to be heard by the
person who wrote it.  The poetry that comes from the the spoken word
artist doesn’t follow any set rules of poetry, but it does have a
unique rhythm that only the poet himself knows.  And just as the
rules for poetry have been swept!
...aside,
so have the rules for music.

This is still an experimental genre
where music is encouraged to be creative with sounds and rhythms to
enhance whatever message the words deliver.
